USDC to Bank Account in the US: ACH, Same Day ACH, RTP and FedNow Explained

How to move USDC to a US bank account by ACH or instant RTP: routing numbers, name matching, rail speeds, notes for Chase, Chime and Mercury, and IRS basics.

By the Sacamos team Β·

To move USDC to a US bank account, you send USDC to a service that converts it to dollars and pays your account by ACH, or by an instant rail like RTP when your bank supports it. You'll need your ABA routing number and account number, and the account must be in your own name. With Sacamos you connect your wallet, see the exact USD amount in a quote before sending, and send USDC on Solana or Base; the partner then pays out over RTP if your bank is on it, otherwise ACH.

Below: how the US rails differ, which routing number to use, why name matching matters, notes for popular banks, and a fair comparison with exchanges and other options.

The US payment rails, compared

The US doesn't have a single instant payment system. Your payout speed depends on which rail is used and whether your bank participates.

RailOperated byTypical speedAvailability
Standard ACHNacha rules; Federal Reserve and The Clearing House operatorsUsually 1–2 business daysBusiness days only
Same Day ACHSame ACH networkSame business day if submitted within a processing windowBusiness days only
RTPThe Clearing HouseSeconds24/7/365, if both banks participate
FedNowFederal ReserveSeconds24/7/365, if both banks participate

A few practical takeaways:

  • ACH works with almost every US bank account, which is why it's the default fallback.
  • ACH doesn't move on weekends or federal holidays. A payout started on Friday evening may not land until the next business day or later.
  • RTP and FedNow are instant but not universal. Participation keeps growing, but it depends on your bank. Sacamos uses RTP when your receiving bank supports it.

ACH routing number vs wire routing number

An ABA routing number is 9 digits and identifies your bank. Many banks use different routing numbers for ACH and for wires, and some large banks use different ACH routing numbers depending on the state where you opened the account.

  • For a USDC cash-out, you want the ACH routing number (sometimes labeled "direct deposit" or "electronic" routing number).
  • Don't use the wire routing number unless your bank says it's the same.
  • You'll usually find both under account details in your banking app, or on a direct deposit form.

Name matching: why your own account matters

US payouts are run by a licensed partner that has to verify your identity (KYC). Payouts generally have to go to an account in your own name. If the name on the bank account doesn't match your verified identity, the payment may be rejected or returned, which delays your money. Joint accounts and business accounts can have extra checks, so test with a small amount first.

Step by step: USDC to your US bank with Sacamos

  1. Open Sacamos and choose the United States. Go to the send page.
  2. Connect your wallet. Phantom, MetaMask, the Base app (formerly Coinbase Wallet), Rabby, Solflare and others work. Only your public address is shared.
  3. Enter your ACH routing number and account number for an account in your name, and choose checking or savings if asked.
  4. Verify your identity with the licensed payout partner if it's your first time.
  5. Choose network and amount. Pick Solana or Base to match where your USDC is. Keep a little SOL or ETH on Base for network fees.
  6. Review the quote. You see fees and the exact USD amount before you send.
  7. Send USDC from your wallet to the one-time deposit address, after checking the network and amount.
  8. Get paid. After on-chain confirmation, the partner pays out by RTP if your bank supports it, otherwise by ACH.

Each bank shows account details a little differently. Check the bank pages for specifics:

  • Chase: routing numbers can vary by the state where the account was opened; use the one shown for your account.
  • Bank of America: also lists different routing numbers for ACH and wires in many cases.
  • Chime: a fintech whose accounts are held at partner banks; your routing and account numbers are in the app.
  • Mercury: business banking for companies; make sure the business account matches the verified entity, not you personally, if required.
  • Wise USD: Wise can provide USD account details that receive ACH; check which details apply to domestic US transfers.

If you already keep funds on a US exchange and move large amounts, withdrawing from there can make sense. If your USDC is in a self-custody wallet and you want to go straight to your bank, a direct cash-out removes steps. More options in how to cash out USDC without an exchange.

Taxes: general IRS information

This is general information, not tax advice. The IRS treats digital assets as property. If you receive USDC as payment for work, that's generally ordinary income at its fair market value when you receive it. Selling or converting digital assets can also be a reportable transaction, even when the price barely moves, as with a stablecoin.

Brokers began reporting digital asset sales on Form 1099-DA starting with 2025 transactions, so you may receive one from an exchange or other broker. Keep your own records regardless: date, amount, network, transaction hash and USD received for each cash-out. A tax professional can tell you what applies to you. Safety tips

  • Send a small test first, especially with a new bank account.
  • Check the network. Solana addresses don't start with "0x"; Base addresses do. Sending on the wrong network can lose funds.
  • Never share your seed phrase. No bank, exchange or support agent needs it.
  • Ignore unsolicited "support" on social media or in DMs.
  • Double-check routing numbers against your bank app, not a search result.

Frequently asked questions

How long does USDC to a US bank account take?

On-chain confirmation takes seconds. If your bank supports RTP the payout is usually instant; standard ACH usually takes one to two business days and doesn't move on weekends or holidays.

Which routing number should I use for a USDC cash-out?

Use your bank's ACH routing number. Many banks use a different routing number for wires, so check your account details in the bank app.

Can I cash out USDC to someone else's bank account?

Generally no. Payouts must go to an account in your own name that matches your verified identity.

What is the difference between RTP and FedNow?

Both are 24/7 instant payment rails. RTP is run by The Clearing House and FedNow by the Federal Reserve, and each requires your bank to participate.

Will I get a Form 1099-DA?

Brokers began reporting digital asset sales on Form 1099-DA starting with 2025 transactions, so you may receive one from a broker you used. Keep your own records and ask a tax professional what applies to you.
